Kellie Pickler takes us back with "Closer to Nowhere"
Kellie Pickler, who takes a symbolic trip back to her old sound and an early 2000's irresistible country sound, really hams it up on her latest release, "Closer to Nowhere". The song lyrics are unapologetically simple, ye t refreshing. Pickler's voice is a perfect fit for the seductive and cheeky release. "We can go some place where there ain't nobody around us / take a ride out there where the stars look a little less crowded." On some parts of the song, Pickler seems a little drowned out by the instrumentation. The intense production blows up on a song that probably didn't need it. Regardless, the song is still great and on par with the best stuff country radio plays. I was quite surprised that the fiery "Little Bit Gypsy" wasn't more of a hit. But hopefully this song will prove a little more successful. It certainly is the most radio friendly song on her newest album, "The Woman I Am". Rating: 4/...
